A professional organization related to my clinical area of practice is CHEST. This organization offers in-person simulation courses, conferences, webinars, and training games to improve your skills in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine. The website also includes up-to-date information and alerts, as well as evidence-based guidelines. These guidelines are used throughout the world to aid the process of clinical decision making. They offer clinical practice guidelines for interventions in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine. For example, this month’s featured guidelines involve antithrombotic therapy and screening for lung cancer. This organization also offers podcasts and articles that keep a clinician up-to-date on specific topics, while one is also able to explore articles related to their specific topic of interest. My husband is a member of this organization, so I have been able to benefit from many of these articles and programs. As an APRN, I could use this information to stay up-to-date and also to hone my clinical skills. I also will be able to apply evidence-based guidelines into my practice and decision making. This supports the NONPF competencies of scientific foundations, leadership, quality, practice inquiry, technology and information literacy. This week we learned about the importance of evidence-based practice. In fact, Tracy and O’Grady (2019) stated that, “All APRNs are expected to translate current best evidence into practice” (p. 226). Therefore, this organization greatly helps provide current evidence guidelines that an APRN can refer to and translate into practice.

     The personal development and self care strategies that I will use to help maintain my personal health through my graduate studies and professional practice are to remember that it is ok to make mistakes and to not be so hard on myself. I will also always seek up-to-date evidence based guidelines, so that I can translate these into practice. The use of reflective practice is also something that I will continue to work on. I think being closely involved with the CHEST organization and attending conferences and webinars will also help me a great deal. As a mentor, I will remember the important tips from the class on providing effective feedback in a manner that is not intimidating to the receiver.

I have never heard of CHEST! I looked over the website and it is definitely very informational and provides great resources, I think the up to date information and alerts is a very cool aspect of the resource. Information and evidence based practice is always changing so getting alerted about the changes is awesome! The podcast option, webinars and trainings is also a great piece of the website as well! Having access to a bunch of articles written by different healthcare professionals gives different views on topics which is so important! Our book describes “current best evidence is drawn from research produced by nurses or a variety of other members of the inter-professional team providing care to individual patients, groups of patients, or communities.”(Tracy & O’Grady, 2019). I think this resource does that perfectly!
Regarding your comment on it being okay to make mistakes and not being so hard on yourself, this is so important and is something I struggle with! I struggle with it so much sometimes that it can be hard for me to sleep, and my anxiety increases. So I totally agree with you, telling yourself its okay to make mistakes is a great personal development and self care strategy that will help you throughout your career!

attending courses in the simulation are integral parts of growth in the simulation-based curriculum. Well done!
Today, we are fortunate to have the National League for Nursing ( NLN) Jefferies Simulation theory and the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning( INACSL) standards of best practice to guide the curriculum. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing( NCSBN) provided evidence supporting the effectiveness of simulation. The study showed that up to fifty percent of clinical experience could be substituted with simulation if conducted under conditions used in the study.
The evidence shows that when integrating simulation of the best practice the following must be in place: high-quality simulation, a theory-based debriefing method, and dedicated trained faculty. The NONPF competency that supports this information is the scientific foundation competency and technology information management that develops new practice approaches based on the integration of research, theory, and practice knowledge.

The American Nephrology Nurse Association’s website has a resource section that serves as a platform to aid nurses in developing research for the benefit of the nephrology community. One thing I like about this resource section on the website is that it provides the APRN with guidelines on how nurses can integrate research in care practices as well as design and implement research using updated methods. There are also current, as of 2021, nephrology research presentations on the website that are approved as continuing education credits that APRNs could use to improve practice. “All APRNs are expected to translate current best evidence practice into use” (Tracy, 2019). These resources support the Scientific Foundation Competency because nursing practice is improving based off the evidence and the data provided from this organization.

I plan to set boundaries with my employer when it comes to the number of hours I work per week to prevent burnout and complacency. Performing more self-reflection sessions will help me to identify where I fall short, or it will show me areas where I can self-improve to be at my best performance level. I also plan on connecting with other new Nurse Practitioners during the first few years of practice so I can compare and discuss the experiences they are having as new providers. I believe that this kind of fellowship will help me stay connected and up to date with my role development.

When searching for professional organizations the most well known nationally is the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). This website has a multitude of information that can contribute to all areas of practice. Information that is included on the website is education, practice, and advocacy. Within these categories there is resources such as education, CE opportunities, educational outcomes, journals and publications, clinical resources, practice management, professional development, practice information based on state, and several resources on advocacy. There is up to date evidenced based articles and different resources via links to journals and publications that you can review to improve practice. Regarding this weeks’ readings, this website, and the information within, it is all evidenced based practice information that can help improve practice. Tracy, M.F., & O’ Grady, E.T. (2019) stated all APRNs are expected to translate current best evidence into practice however despite widespread acceptance of the concept of EBP, adoption of current best evidence into daily practice remains limited. The more that providers and clinicians join organizations, the increase in exposure to resources and tools through these organizations, it will help drive the adoption of EBP into daily practice. The core competencies this week coincides with is scientific foundations, leadership, quality, policy, and practice inquiry NONPF competencies (Thomas, A.C., et. al., 2012).

The personal development and self-care strategies I will use to help maintain my personal health throughout grad studies and professional practice include holding myself accountable, being open minded, a good listener, and pausing before responding with constructive feedback. I will not be afraid to speak up even if difficult. I will use the most up to date EBP in my practice, advocate for ethical justice, and be the best leader that I possibly can be. I will not be hard on myself when I make mistakes. I will use my mistakes to learn, reflect, and better my practice. I will take care of myself and my own mental and physical health through a healthy work-life balance so I am able to provide the best care to my patients that I can.
