Imperatively, the purpose of this part us to describe tools that a professional nursing student can deploy to meet the requirements for academic integrity and ethics as professionals. The section analyzes the relationship between academic integrity and writing as well as the one between professional practices and scholarly ethics. The section also highlights strategies that I intend to pursue in maintaining integrity and ethics in my academic activities as an MSN program’s student and as a professional nurse throughout my career.

Relationship Between Academic Integrity and Writing

Academic integrity entails fundamental values that include honesty, responsibility and accountability, and trust in producing scholarly work. Nurses taking the MSN program write numerous assignment, research papers and articles on different subjects, and this involves reading works and publications by different authors. Imperatively, it is essential to maintain academic integrity by having proper citations, avoiding plagiarism and any form of academic malpractices that demonstrate lack of ethics and represents academic dishonesty. To maintain high levels of academic integrity, I will act based on ethical principles required, being responsible and accountable to completing the assignments and developing trust as well as ensuring that I follow the policies on integrity and student conduct while pursuing the MSN program. As a student and nursing professional, there are many resources and approaches to maintaining integrity and professional ethics in the respective settings. As a student, the resources that I will deploy to maintain integrity include university library; both online and physical, consulting my preceptor and respective members of faculty that deal with student affairs to ensure that I adhere to the rule and best practices (Marsh, 2018). I will also leverage colleague’s and peers’ perspectives on ethical issues and how they have observed the expected professional conduct. I will also leverage online research resources at a personal level to enhance my understanding and ways of maintaining integrity as a student as well as a professional nurse in a fast-changing healthcare environment.

I will also leverage organizational resources, professional content and seminars as well as conferences to enhance my interactions with colleagues and other nurses in different settings. The use of professional organizations like the ANA will allow me to develop appropriate approaches like inter-professional collaboration and increased multidisciplinary approaches to care provision as a professional nurse. The use of evidence-based practice best practices will also enhance my ability to adhere to the integrity and professional ethics in my workplace.

Academic integrity and professional ethics and practices are essential for MSN program students as well as professional nurses in their practice. The evaluation of these aspects that include identification of resources and ways to maintain academic integrity and professional ethics underscores the importance of ethical nursing practice, from school to practice environment. As highlighted, I intend to ensure academic integrity and professional ethical practice as a nurse student and later on as an advanced practice nurse in my workplace.
